Trip to the farm

Today we went to Stavenger, IL. Our church supports the Food Resource Bank (www.foodsresourcebank.org) every year. Members "buy" an acre of land to plant corn and the profits go to the food resource bank who in turn uses money to teach people how to sustain themselves. This years project benefits Peru.
Today was harvest day, and our little family boarded the bus at church this morning and took the 2 hours trip south/west. There was about 25 of us. We arrived just in time for worship which was followed by a potluck. We then drove out to one of the fields to help with the harvest.
The farmers (all members of the church) had 4 combines and 4 tractors ready for us. We took turns with all the other families and did one round across the field. It's amazing how easy machines can make life.
Florian loved the tractors, but was concerned about the noise the machine actually made. He had a great time playing with other children.
Needless to say he and I both took a nap on the way back home.
