As you may know, we unexpectedly and last minute flew to Berlin for Christmas and to celebrate my Oma's (Hanna Haas) 80th Birthday.
Because of the last minute deal, Ryan and I did not fly on the same flight. His and Florian's flight went smooth. Mine and Finn had every adventure you can imagine. (canceled flight, new flight date, only flight from London to Frankfurt, no luggage, couldn't find the family, drove on ice to Berlin, stroller not at the gate, etc). We had wonderful time with the entire family. Both boys have asked to go back or, in Finn's case, were looking for people for a few days. We have gotten over jetlag and my suitcase was delivered to my house this week. It's amazing what one can do without.
Although we were not able to stay for Oma's actuall party, we were all happy to have gone and I know she was happy to see us.
Berlin was full of snow, which we braved like the professional Chicago-ens we are. Nothing you can't handle with a sled and some gloves.
We visited the Gendarmentmarkt right before Christmas, enjoyed our Gluehwein and gebrannte Mandeln. We ate as many Broetchen and Schokolade as we could and, of course, had a Doener and a Currywurst.
My parents braved all us noisy and active people in their (still large enough) home. Lot's of love, laughter and the occasional very late night.
A Happy, Healthy and Blessed New Year to you!
